Is The Film Connection A Good School! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is merely two movies long, but what movies! Neither is likely to be specific to Thanksgiving, nonetheless they relate to some themes in the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving or any day of the year.

Big oil company propaganda using a heart! Just the free movie we'd like for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one of the most lyrical American films ever produced. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress to "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of a Cajun boy with his fantastic family, living on the bayous in ways of life that individuals can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land towards the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything exactly like it was, clean and unspoiled except that the family carries a little more money. (Yes, it had been funded by the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends almost all of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating along the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, together with his pet raccoon. He never wears your life preserver or shoes... doesn't actually have a cell phone to call in case he gets in trouble. There is not much story, merely a celebration (in such stunning monochrome photography that you might well wonder exactly what the big deal is approximately color) of the way of life that is no longer around.
All in the actors were amateurs, as well as most, this became their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who literally boy, was living in a FEMA trailer with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their property. (source). A monochrome silent film that ends having a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, just what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have 3 good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc within this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever produced. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died convinced that the last copy ended up destroyed. In a little weirdness that sounds a lot more like a movie compared to truth, a practically complete print was found in 1981 in a janitor's closet of an Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that we can watch this magnificent film, on many lists of the greatest films of them all, at no cost online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered a difficult breakdown in the making on this film, and he or she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, said that Falconetti's performance "may function as finest performance ever concerning film."
